Glamping at Layer Marney is a farm with lambs for bottle feeding until mid May at a startling location. Come meet Peggy and Darcy the beautiful black horses, learn about the rare Castle Milk Moorit breed of sheep here that resemble goats as much as they do sheep, feed the greedy pig, or just get acquainted with Marmadook the cat. And all at the tallest Tudor gatehouse in England barely an hour from Greater London, as seen and acclaimed recently on the Four in a Bed TV series. Layer Marney even has its own separate program of activities that you are perfectly placed to join up for.

The tents nestle in a beautiful spot in the birch, ash and alder trees that you’ll share with pheasants, woodpeckers, muntjac and owls, some tents facing fields that are home to red deer. All tents come with private shower, and to indulge the senses in nature, outdoor hot tubs as a bookable extra. Rising above, the tower’s brickwork and terracotta glows in sunshine as it must have done in Henry VIII’s time when it was the tallest gatehouse yet built, and offers amazing coast views.

Layer Marney’s is quite a story, so the farm tour covers the farm, its characterful animals, like Billy the goat, and the thrills and spills that the history of the house provides. You can take off on rented bikes into the country you’ve seen from up high, and which Layer Marney has been a fixture within for so long. The honesty shop will have the stock to sustain you. Stone-oven baked pizzas with toppings chosen and laid on in what to your kids is evenly, will also hit the spot!
