Craighead Howfs near Dunblane, Perthshire, Scotland offers seven unique and exceptional glamping accommodations, each one offering an individual experience in a quiet country setting. Set in two acres of grounds you will be surrounded by natural gardens, a lochan and woodland areas, share wonderful views, sunsets and privacy. Yet thanks to our location you are ideally placed for easy access to some of Scotland’s finest countryside and tourist attractions. Strike out from here to visit Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Edinburgh or Glasgow or head north for the Highlands, Scotland’s National Parks or the mountains and lochs of the Trossachs. We are only a mile and a half from Cromlix House, renovated by Wimdeldon champion Andy Murray. Why not treat yourself to lunch or dinner at this must visit venue being overseen by the Roux brothers.

For golfers it couldn’t be better with an array of golf courses available including the famous Gleneagles. Walkers and cyclists will find this an ideal base to return to in the evenings. Or simply relax surrounded by peace, tranquility and wildlife. When the day is drawing to a close it will be time to sit under the stars, perhaps by a fire or BBQ and possibly enjoy a dram or two. Craighead Glamping is an adult only however, we welcome children during main holiday times to stay with us in the Muckle Howf.
THE TREE HOWF – Sleeps 2 Adults
The Tree Howf is a beautifully designed and crafted masterpiece! Built high up within the branches of the tree it has amazing 360 degree views over the Ochil hills and beyond. Immerse yourself in peace and quiet in this totally self sufficient tree house, which has internal cooking facilities, shower and wood burning stove/oven, while downstairs there is compost toilet.
In the evening sit outside on the balcony overlooking the lochan and views of the Ochils. Test your cookery skills on the wood burning oven and enjoy your food al fresco. In the summer the swallows will dip in the water… You will be treated to lots of birds, wildlife, soay and ryeland sheep, ponies, our two donkeys, our pygmy goats, a variety of poultry including turkeys, rhea, guinea fowl, ducks and geese.
Guests who have already visited have loved it, really appreciating the loving attention to detail in the design and build. It really is an exceptional glamping experience.
Please do note that if the weather falls to freezing the water has to be turned off and in freezing conditions you have the full use of the facilities within the Wash Howf
THE WEE HOWF – Sleeps 2 Adults
Our romantic glamping cabin, The Wee Howf is built high on its stilts with the burn running underneath, sits on the edge of our lochan. Totally surrounded by wildlife and our many animals, while away the hours watching for swallows to dip, fish jump and frogs to call. Red kite will pay you a visit along with many other wildlife friends. When dusk decends light the fire pit and put something on the BBQ and star gaze over the water, it really is a huge open sky. Then retire into your very cosy cabin to sit beside your log burning stove and listen to the sound of the burn below. It is quite simply unique and is most definitely not one in a group! All our guests so far have loved it.
In the evening sit outside by the open fire and enjoy a barbecue by the Lochan. Using the pulley pull a bottle of wine or beer up from the ‘fridge in the burn’ and enjoy views over the Ochils, or watch the fish jump. In the summer the swallows will dip in the water… You will be treated to lots of birds, wildlife, our two highland cows, soay sheep, ryeland sheep, donkeys. pygmy goats, ponies also turkey’s, rhea, geese, ducks, bantams etc.

THE SUMMER HOWF – Sleeps 2 Adults
The Summer Howf offers a totally different glamping experience with a truly garden feel inside and out you are immersed in our country garden.It is a delightfully renovated Summer House complete with its own electricity and is furnished to give you a feel of camping but most definitely in a garden style. The Summer Howf is completely secluded amongst the trees at the very top of the garden alongside the duck pond with the ducks as your neighbours. Walk over the bridge to see the miniature donkeys and Highland cows.
When the sun shines take the picnic blanket and lie under the amazing Ash tree only disturbed by the ducks and birds. With a distinctly European feel the Summer Howf is furnished tastefully with all you will need and more! There is plenty to do in the area with great access to main roads and railway, but if you don’t feel like leaving the Summer Howf you can just enjoy the grounds and gardens of Craighead.

The facilities in the ‘Wash Howf’ are a pleasant 50m walk down the garden to the main buildings.
The Summer Howf is open from April to October.
HOBBIT HOWFS – BAGEND AND BURROW Sleeps 2 Adults
Built right in to the hillside and adorned with grassy roofs and round doors, stay in one of our Hobbit Howfs that are traditionally built from stone and wood, with nooks and crannies. Off grid with stunning views all around!
In the evening sit outside overlooking the views of the Ochils and watch the beautiful horses roam. Test your cookery skills on the BBQ and enjoy your food al fresco. You will be treated to lots of birds. We regularly have Red Kites fly overhead. There’s also wildlife, soay and ryeland sheep, ponies, our two donkeys, our pygmy goats, a variety of poultry including turkeys, rhea, guinea fowl, ducks, geese and the stars of the show our two highland cows Uigg and Beag!

The Burrow has a hobbit style shower and an adjacent hand-carved wooden wash hand basin, designer eco friendly compost toilet in its own wee hobbit howf next door, with hand carved wooden wash hand basin.
Bagend has a slipper bath with hand held shower and adjacent hand-carved wooden wash hand basin, designer eco friendly compost toilet in its own wee hobbit howf next door, with hand carved wooden wash hand basin.
There’s a Delightful 200m walk from the car park to the Hobbits with your own hobbit barrow to transport luggage

A beautiful and quirky squint roofed cottage is nestled at the side of the little lochan at Craighead. With its bulging walls, sagging roof and a wonderful Scottish Oak Cruck frame, it’s as though it has been here for centuries. Surrounded, by wildlife and our many animals, while away the hours watching over the lochan waiting for swallows to dip, fish jump and frogs to call. Red kite will pay you a visit along with many other wildlife friends. When dusk descends light the fire pit and put something on the BBQ and star gaze. Retire in to your Cruck cottage with its oh so quirky interior to sit and watch the flames of the log burning stove and enjoy a dram – after all it is the Whisky Howf!
FACILITIES at the Wash Howf
The Wash Howf is where you will find the facilities should you be staying in the Summer Howf. It also offers additional facilities for other guests including a hair dryer and full length mirror and flushing toilet. It is a pleasant walk from all our accommodation and just a very short walk from the Summer Howf., here you will find a shower, flushing toilet and kitchen, equipped with sink, fridge, freezer and microwave.
The Wash Howf is also home to our quirky HONESTY SHOP for the things you may have forgotten or for the days you just don’t want to leave! We try and stock if with things you may need, along with our fresh eggs, sometimes hen/duck/Rhea/goose and quail. You will also find additional wood and charcoal for your fire pit and BBQ and there is a range of information of things to do in the local area and somewhere to hang wet coats/walking gear if the sun doesn’t shine!
