Glamping Sussex

Glamping in Sussex in beautiful hand-built Shepherds huts sited in a sunny glade in the woods or camp in small secluded woodland on our 200 acre family farm. Wander through the orchards to the National Trust’s Bodiam castle and the local pub, take a ferry ride down the river, hop on a steam train, or just relax in front of the camp fire and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

GLAMPING IN BEAUTIFUL, COMFORTABLE & SUSTAINABLE HUTS
Hand built by Nick here on the farm in the tiny village of Bodiam in East Sussex, our huts are based on the idea of an old Shepherd’s hut. What makes them unique in today’s market is that (in true agricultural fashion) they are built using reclaimed, recycled and locally sourced materials wherever possible. The aim of this is to make them of the lowest possible environmental impact.

THE HUTS
Currently there are two Hut sites on the farm, each site is home to five Huts, two of which offer living accommodation for up to 4 people, two further living huts are 5 berth. The 5th hut is the wash hut. The huts are fully equipped and a linen service is provided. Each hut has outside dining furniture and its own fire pit for cooking (logs and cooking equipment provided). A gas hob is fitted for convenience, as well as a sink with cold running water. Hampers of fine local produce can be arranged for your arrival. These are bespoke and need discussing fairly well in advance.

The hut is quickly and easily changed between its day and night functions. The day bed at one end easily converts to become bunk beds, and the dining table at the other end folds down to make a double bed.

To keep the environmental impact of the accommodation to a minimum the huts are not connected to a mains electric supply. Electric lighting is provided by means of a solar panel on the roof offering an easy and safe means of lighting.

The huts are fully equipped with

  • Wood burning stoves, so they are really warm and cosy
  • Cooking equipment
  • Tumblers, wine glasses and mugs, tumblers, tea and coffee pots
  • Milk jug
  • Cutlery and enamelware crockery
  • Sauce pan, milk pan, frying pan
  • Cast iron cooking equipment specifically designed for cooking on the open fire
  • Consumables: including a few tea bags and some coffee and sugar on board as well as loo roll a j cloth, tea towel and washing up liquid
  • Linen provided includes 2 pillows per person in cases and a duvet in a case as well as a fitted sheet for each bed. We do not provide towels

THE WASH HUT
The wash hut provides washing facilities. It houses two loos with basins and two showers. Each have both a hot and a cold water supply. There is also loo roll and hand soap in the wash hut.

THE HUB

The Hub is a functional shop, meeting place and Spa designed to meet the needs of a small rural community, as well as guests to the village.

It is a unique celebration of everything local. The products, the people and the place. Bringing these things together in one place, we aim to offer a great range of products showcasing local Food and drink, as well as art, crafts, activities, experiences and even camping equipment that can’t be found anywhere else. Everything you find in here (with the exception of maybe Paracetamol and Nappies) has a story to tell.

Providing a friendly service and amazing products and experiences in a fun, sustainable environment is incredibly important to us. We have followed in the footsteps of The Original Hut Company when creating The Hub.

SPA

We hired Udiam campsite for my 40th birthday had a wonderful time. The private site is huge, beautiful and tucked away we felt like we had the place to ourselves and had such a great time. Perfectly equipped with hot showers, toilets, a fire pit, a barbecue and a shelter which was amazing to hide under when the most incredible thunderstorm hit on the saturday night. The site has the most beautiful of trees - an oak and an ash growing next to each other, the ash bending down to make the most perfect sitting / hammock spot. The hub cafe was a real treat - probably the first time I've had a pina colada while camping! I'll remember the weekend for a long lng time. Thanks!

We had a really lovely long weekend when we hired 4 shepherds huts for a Hen Do. Beautiful location, nice and quiet and sheltered by trees. The are kitted out great with everything you need. The service was excellent and the toilets and showers were always spotless. We also ate pizzas from The Hub and delicious breakfast there too. We hired kayaks and had a great paddle down the river. I’d highly recommend a stay with the Orginal Hut company. Blissful!

We stayed for a short weekend break at the beginning of June in our camper and really enjoyed the facility. Very peaceful and picturesque and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The Hub is excellent in both quality food/drink and value.. The Steam Train is a 5 minute walk from the Farm and we took a wonderful 50 minute ride on it to Tenterden and back. We loved the location so much we’ve booked again for next weekend

Always love camping here. Usually we camp in the Hop Pickers wood site but this year we were on the Poplars site which was great and right next to the river. Lovely and quiet with only a few people staying, making it a perfect relaxing break.

An absolutely brilliant stay at Poplar Campsite. The facilities were clean and showers were hot (except the last day when I assume the gas ran out, but otherwise I would be happy with those showers at home!!!) Beautiful location and a good variety of food available. We enjoyed the fish and chip van and pizza night. Will definitely be visiting again.
